Metalogix Launches Free Migration Tool for Microsoft OneDrive for Business

Posted on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 by STUART PARKERSON, Global Sales

Metalogix has introduced its Essentials for Drives: File Shares to OneDrive Freemium, a new program that allows for the free migration of up to 500 drives (or users) or 1TB of file share content - including files, folders, versions, metadata, and permissions from file systems, file shares or Network Attached Storage (NAS) - into Microsoft's OneDrive for Business.

Included for free with Office 365 or SharePoint Online business subscription plans, Microsoft's OneDrive for Business is a cloud-based file hosting service that allows business users to store, sync, access and share files through a mobile device or web browser.

One of the biggest advantages of OneDrive for Business, Google Drive, Box, and other enterprise file sync and share (EFSS) systems is the pure collaborative nature. They’re uncluttered by structure and process and allow users to store and share content quickly. However, that same lack of structure and process can be a disadvantage as it makes them hard to administer and prone to data sprawl, breaches, and content irrelevancy.

Essentials for Drives solves these types of problems by providing all the necessary functionality to perform onboarding into and fostering of a more structured, secure cloud collaboration system - from onboarding and day-to-day user and content analysis, to security and backup/restore operations, Essentials provides the ability to know what content is in drives, how it is being used, shared, and provides users with the power to take actions to ensure content security and relevancy.

Utilizing File Shares to OneDrive Freemium provides the ability to:

-  Identifying and correcting potential migration issues
- Automatically scanning for and optimum provisioning of OneDrives
- Accurately preserving, enhancing or assigning metadata in OneDrive
- Flattening file structure
- Automatically converting folder names to metadata
- Generating detailed logging for post-migration verification and failed item reprocessing
