KANDY Provides Real Time Video, Voice, Presence and Text into Web and Mobile Apps

GENBAND has launched KANDY, a real time communications software development platform, designed to help companies build communications that are more integrated and immediate. Kandy provides the ability to embed real time video, voice, presence and text into web and mobile applications.

KANDY’s Platform-as-a-Service framework includes APIs, SDKs and quick starts that include pre-built applications such as video shopping assistance. With KANDY there is no need to leave an application to start a conversation, help a customer, get a live update or ask a question. It allows the individual to quickly see who is available to resolve an issue, or KANDY can find the right person to address the problem.

The new KANDY website provides all the technical information needed to embed KANDY communications in a new or existing web application. Developers can access Quick Starts, which are basic code examples and working demos of the fundamentals of the KANDY communication features. Documentation on the REST API provides commands for both administration and communication control. And there is information on KANDY's JavaScript library, which provides a series of calls, methods and listeners for all the critical communication tasks.

KANDY is a hierarchical system and the top most level is the Administrator. Think of the Administrator as a super user who can effect any changes. Below the Administrator, is the Account which may be set up for specific applications or for individual customers as well (for example a developer working with multiple customers).

From the Account level moving down is Domains. A Domain could be used for an account which has multiple applications or perhaps to create a subsection of users. For example, Domains can be created for a customer based upon regions (for example US, EMEA, APAC).

Finally, within a Domain, and at the lowest level, are Users. Users are individual addressable subscribers who can make or receive communication events.

Neighboring users are Devices. A User might have multiple Devices and be logged on to all of them at the same time. For example, a KANDY user might be logged on with their PC, tablet and mobile phone. KANDY is aware of each device that is logged on and there is the ability to send messages to specific devices if desired. If not specified, KANDY will automatically send a message or event to all the devices. But developers can also specify the device as well.

The Kandy portal is launching is available for free developer trials. The portal includes a developer area, application showcase, and a community in addition to developer API, SDK and quick start tools.
