Create Virtual Machines with vCPU and Memory Through Google's Compute Engine

The Google Cloud team has announcing the general availability of Custom Machine Types for Google Compute Engine, which lets developers create virtual machines with vCPU and memory configurations. Custom Machine Types is a feature of Google Compute Engine that lets developers create a machine type customized to their needs to form virtual machines with the optimal amount of CPU and memory for workloads.

Developers can create virtual machines with as few as 1 vCPU and as many as 32 vCPUs with up to 6.5 GiB of memory per vCPU. They can use Custom Machine Types with CentOS, CoreOS, Debian, OpenSUSE, Ubuntu, and now with RedHat, and Windows operating systems. Developers can also bring their own Linux variant to further customize a setup. Google Container Engine and Deployment Manager now also support Custom Machine Types.

Compute Engine’s stop/start feature provides the ability to move the workload to a smaller or larger Custom Machine Type instance, or to a predefined configuration. Custom Machine Types have flat pricing based on per vCPUs and per GiB of memory usage. For example, A 4 vCPU, 10 GiB of memory VM costs half as much as an 8 vCPU 20 GiB memory VM.
