Adobe released the results of its annual Enterprise Mobile Apps Survey report on the adoption and use of enterprise mobile apps, including opportunities and challenges for businesses looking to increase productivity and leverage apps as a competitive advantage.

Key findings include:

- Enterprise mobile app usage and investment are on the rise: 69% of company departments are using between 2 and 5 apps, 27% use 6 or more apps. 56% expect their enterprise mobile apps investment to increase in the next year.

- Enterprise mobile apps deliver a competitive advantage, but companies haven’t modernized their strategies for this new reality: 62% of respondents believe that it’s important to have their enterprise mobile app strategy to be ahead of competitors. However, 66% believe their department is just on-par, or behind their competitors.

- Messaging and customer service apps are mission critical today: Messaging and collaborations systems (57%) and customer service and support (55%) apps were ranked as most mission critical today, with the latter being most critical (61%) in the next 3 years.
