VMware’s AirWatch has introduced the AirWatch AppShield which utilizes the AirWatch SDK and the AirWatch App Wrapping engine to provide users with security and management capabilities. AirWatch also has announced the charter mobile application management platform (MADP) providers that interoperate with AirWatch AppShield.
AirWatch provides the ability to containerize applications, secure data and enforce compliance policies across mobile operating systems providing the tools that enable an organization to develop, secure, deploy and manage critical business applications. As part of AirWatch AppShield, the AirWatch App Wrapping engine gives existing internal applications an extra level of security and management capabilities without requiring further development. Users can wrap applications from the admin console and be confident their applications are secure.
Many companies use MADP providers to build applications to help fulfill business requirements. The charter MADP providers that interoperate with AirWatch AppShield include Adobe, Appcelerator, Kony, MicroStrategy, Oracle, Salesforce, Sencha, Telerik and Xamarin. AirWatch also interoperates with the Apache Cordova open platform, which powers many other MADP providers. By enabling interoperability with MADP providers, AirWatch customers can wrap more than 100,000 existing applications developed on these platforms.
To become an AirWatch AppShield partner, an MADP provider must demonstrate compatibility with AirWatch App Wrapping feature sets, including app tunneling, single sign-on, data loss prevention restrictions, compromised device detection and other security features. MADP providers work closely with AirWatch to provide sample applications, test against the AirWatch App Wrapping engine and identify and resolve any issues. Once approved, AirWatch AppShield partners are featured on the AirWatch Marketplace.
