Epson Wants Developers to Help Build Apps for Wearable Devices

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

Richard Harris Richard Harris

The future of mobile could be in devices you wear like a pair of glasses, and Epson is putting some guns behind their efforts to bringing new devices, apps, ideas, ad networks, and developers together to create "something awesome"

Epson launched version 1.0 of a device (Moverio BT-1000) last year with WiFi connectivity and smart navigation that makes images pop in the real world through augmented reality. It requires a touch-panel remote running on the Android platform, but Eric Mizufuka, product manager of new markets at Epson Moverio, said the company is working on version two now.

They are looking for developers to continue building their app inventory, and you can even get your hands on a free Moverio if you build something super sweet that they like enough to post into the market.

Judges will select a winner based on creativity, novelty, practical use and implementation and benefit to humanity. Epson will award more than $16,000 in scholarship money and prizes. Epson will accept entries through April 30.
