Flash Vs. HTML5

Richard Harris Richard Harris

The battle between HTML and Flash rages on among developers, especially those in the mobile world.
A new website demonstrating the power of both platforms is hoping to settle the score (at least for now). Check out the demo of a game built using each respective language and a voting mechanism that lets you decide after seeing them both in action -which is better.

Flash developers argue that, with over 1 billion users worldwide, Flash isn’t going away any time soon. And with 99% of browsers supporting the technology, they have a much larger audience reach.

HTML5 advocates argue that several of the things Flash fans see as pros are actually major drawbacks, and Flash code is compiled and that there is no way for a search engine to properly spider the content. That means all the great content in your flash banner, animation, or video adds nothing to your site’s search engine optimization (SEO).

There is a nice info-graphic you can view for a comparison of the two.

Our Take:
HTML5 and Flash will always be relevant in the industry. The real issue at hand is not "which is better" but "which is going to be more widely used". They are both great languages -each with their own set of strengths.
I really like this website demonstration, mainly because rather than going back and forth with technical exchanges of "this and that" - they just put the fingers to the keyboard and demonstrate a game that runs cross-platform, then let you decide.
